Welcome to Ms. Lee's Think Tank!

August 15, 2022

Dear Parent(s) and/or Guardian(s):

I am so thrilled to introduce myself to you as your child’s 5th grade teacher at Falcon Academy of Science and Technology.  I feel so excited and honored to be a part of your child’s journey and growth this year, both academically and personally.

Just a little bit about myself:  My name is Sue Lee.  This will be my seventeenth year as an educator and my fourth year at Brea-Olinda Unified.  I have the fortune of gaining some very rich experiences from distinguished school districts across Southern California including:  Santa Monica – Malibu Unified School District, Las Virgenes Unified School District, and the Palm Springs Unified School District.  But ultimately, I am so thrilled to return to Orange County where I was born and raised!  I went to UCSD and UCLA for my Bachelor of Arts degree, and earned my Master of Arts degree in Teaching  and my Administrative Credential from UCI.

One of my proudest accomplishments is developing, launching, and piloting the  Highly Gifted Magnet Program for the Las Virgenes Unified School District in Calabasas.  Under my leadership, the Gifted Magnet Program became (and continues to be) a distinguished program for the district that drew in students from all over Los Angeles County.

As a passionate advocate for providing a high-quality instructional program for all students, I am a professional developer and instructional leader for fellow educators at state and local conferences.

I model a passion for learning, and try to make learning meaningful, enjoyable, and challenging in a safe environment that promotes academic risk-taking and healthy character development and social responsibility.

Parents and students can expect homework to be assigned DAILY, Monday through Thursday, with no exception. Rarely will I assign homework on a weekend (unless your child is busily working on a long-term project), as I view these days as your family’s precious time to connect and play!  We are definitely of the well-balanced work hard, play hard mentality -- We all need to play in order to reset and give it everything we’ve got when it’s time to work; I am sure your children will agree!

I believe that my ability to nurture students' perceptions of their capabilities helps students realize their full academic and social development potential.  I have high expectations in my classroom, as I believe in your children.   I will expect active class participation from everyone everyday.

In addition to academic pursuits, I unwaveringly require each child to respect everyone.  All students should always feel safe to share their ideas in our family unit environment.  This is a space where students feel free to take academic risks, without fearing being mocked or being wrong.  As a cohort, we work on cultivating and promoting an atmosphere of curiosity and endless wonderment within the safety of our classroom.

My ultimate goal always is to support your child in becoming the best scholar and human being one can be. All of my decisions and actions can be traced back to this goal.  Please feel free to contact me anytime. Your children will be navigating, experiencing, and growing a lot this year!  I look forward to the ride with you!

Here’s to an exciting and promising year!

Best,

Ms. Sue Lee
